Constituency Analysis: 161 Ballygunge in West Bengal

Ballygunge (161) Assembly Seat in West Bengal has 293 booths. 43% population is below 40. 37% is 40 to 60 and 19% is above 60. Average age is 44.5. Much higher than national average. This is indicative of urban to urban youth migration happening in Bengal.


The constituency has a skewed sex ratio - not like other constituencies in Bengal.



Minority voters: >90% in 8 booths, >80% in 40 booths, >70% in 41 booths have, >60% in 25 booths and 50%> in 22 booths. Between 1952-2022, only one MLA was from minority community.




In 2011, Trinamool got 60% vote, in 2016 45%, in 2019 GS 61%, in 2021 70%, and then in 2022 49%. CPM got 32% in 2011, 35% in 2016(INC as alliance), 5% in 2019, 5% in 2021 & 30% in 2022. BJP got 3% in 2011, 13% in 2016, 27% in 2019, 20% in 2021 & 12% in 2022.



In 2021, minority vote consolidation happened in favour of TMC. In some minority dominated booths, TMC got >92% of valid votes. This changed in 2022.
